Megan Olson is an abstract visual artist working primarily in oil painting, watercolor, gouache and graphite.
Olson's work demonstrates an original aesthetic that is quasi calligraphic; The nature of the forms that she creates suggests the disciplined, controlled hand of the calligrapher yet simultaneously allows for the unexpected and chaotic.
With fluctuating lines she weaves abstract forms that continuously move the eye through a complex maze in space. Olson's works convincingly provide the illusion of a third dimension through her use of fine rendering technique, and an almost photorealistic attention to detail. Seemingly charged with transient energy, the shapes within these forms constantly transfigure rather than result in a static, defined focal point.
